THE SCHOOL

Warwick Academy was founded in 1662 and is commonly said to be the oldest school in continuous operation in the Western Hemisphere. The school caters to students 4-18 years of age and has an enrolment of 844 with a teaching staff of 94. Warwick Academy is an academically selective, co-educational school, essentially organised along International and British lines, which seeks a diverse college/university bound student body.

Our vision is to inspire students to reach their full potential and contribute positively to their community. We strive to create a culture of collaboration so that our students can become lifelong learners, global thinkers and successful leaders. There are various pathways available to students in our Sixth Form and the most important measure is their success in gaining admissions to the best Universities & Colleges around the world.

COURSE OFFERINGS

Since 1996, the school has adopted the United Kingdom National Curriculum and students write the IGCSE and GCSE examinations at the end of Year 11 (Grade 10).

Students generally pursue 8-11 subjects to IGCSE/GCSE examination level. All courses are two-year courses, which students study on both Year 10 and Year 11 (Grades 9 and 10).

The International Baccalaureate (IB) and BTEC are examined in the Sixth Form.

IB Diploma Students must take one course each in Groups 1-5 and Theory of Knowledge. Their final course must come from Groups 3-6. Three subjects must be at a Higher Level (maximum of four) and three at Standard Level. They must also complete the Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity and Service components of the IB Diploma Programme.

IB Individual Subject Students take a combination of IB courses suited to their individual educational goals.

IB Careers Programme Students must take at least one BTEC course, two IB courses, Personal and Professional Skills and Careers Programme Language Development. They must also complete a Reflective Project and Service Learning as part of the IB Careers Programme Core.

All courses are two-year courses, studied in both Year 12 and Year 13 (Grades 11 and 12).

GRADING

At Warwick Academy, we do not rank internally and do not calculate a GPA (We can calculate on request).

In both Sixth Form and Years 10 & 11, students are consistently assessed against the marking criteria for eventual examination of the course. Their grades are not scaled for their position in the course. Progression of grades from Year 10 through Year 11 is expected, as is progression of grades from Year 12 through Year 13.

Sixth Form students (Year 12 & 13) are assessed according to the IB criteria (Levels 1 to 7 / 1 the lowest and 7 the highest) & BTEC criteria (Pass, Merit, Distinction, Fail).

In Year 10 & 11 we use the Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge Assessment I/GCSE examination boards.

Cambridge subjects use the current grading structure. Edexcel subjects use the new grading structure below.

For Cambridge at IGCSE - Grade ‘A*’ is awarded for the highest level of achievement and grade ‘G’ indicates the lowest level. ‘C’ is regarded as a 'good pass'. The ‘U’ indicates an unclassified result (or fail).

For Edexcel at IGCSE - A grade of ‘1’ is the lowest and ‘9’ the highest with a ‘4’ regarded as a 'pass'. The ‘U’ indicates an unclassified result (or fail).

SCHOOL EXAMINATION RESULTS

IGCSE / GCSE RESULTS

100% passes across all subjects with 96% on average achieving 5 or more A*- C / 9 - 4 grades including Mathematics and English - UK Average: 67%.

ENROLMENT IN THE SIXTH FORM

In the Sixth Form, Year 12 and Year 13 (US Grades 11 and 12), students are enrolled in the IB Diploma Programme, the IB Career-related Programme (using BTEC courses) or IB Individual Subjects. Students graduate from WA at the completion of Year 13 (Grade 12).
